From Carpentry to Champion Coach: The Journey of Ali Umair

Some journeys are measured not only by titles and victories but by years of dedication, growth, and commitment. For Ali Umair, that journey began in 2006 when he joined Conrad Maldives Rangali Island for his first job as a Carpenter Helper.

From there, Ali Umair steadily progressed through different stages of his career. He moved into the role of Carpenter before being promoted to Senior Carpenter. His development continued with promotion to Assistant Team Leader – Carpentry before reaching his current role as Team Leader – Carpentry in 2021, a position he continues to hold today.

Alongside his professional career, Ali Umair became one of the most recognizable figures in Resort League through his long-standing contribution to the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island team.

Over the years, Akaa played an important role in multiple championship winning campaigns, helping the team lift Resort League titles in 2015, 2016 and 2017 before adding further championships in 2019, 2022 and 2023.

The 2023 season marked Akaa’s final year as a player, bringing an end to an impressive chapter on the court.

However, his journey with the team did not end there.

In 2024, Akaa stepped into a new role as Assistant Coach, bringing his experience and leadership to the next generation of players. The transition proved successful as Conrad continued competing at the highest level.

The following season delivered another milestone as Akaa took charge as Head Coach and added more silverware to his achievements, leading the team to both the Resort League title and Resort Super League title in 2025.

Now, another chapter has been added to the story.

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island completed Resort League 2026 Ari Zone in dominant fashion, defeating Melia in the final to secure another Resort League title and finishing the campaign with a perfect 100% undefeated record.

The victory also confirms Conrad Maldives Rangali Island’s qualification to Resort Super League 2026, continuing the team’s success among the champions of Resort League.

The 2026 title also added another remarkable chapter to Conrad Maldives Rangali Island’s Resort League history. The team has now reached 10 consecutive Resort League Finals, winning 9 of them, including the 2026 Ari Zone title.

What makes the achievement even more special is Akaa’s presence throughout the entire journey. In every one of those tournament campaigns, Ali Umair played a role in the team’s success contributing as a player, captain, or coach across different generations of the team.

For Akaa, the achievement represents another title in a journey that has evolved from player to coach — and from a young Carpenter Helper in 2006 to a leader helping shape one of Resort League’s most successful teams.
